Following the success of last year’s “Spring 2023: New Year Calligraphy Giveaways”, the Calligraphy Club at Van Hien University has once again come together to organize this year’s event, “Spring 2024: New Year Calligraphy Giveaways”.

The event, held on March 13, 2024, from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Mirror Hall 613, Au Co, Phu Trung Ward, Tan Phu District, HCMC, aimed to foster a deep appreciation and enthusiasm for the art of calligraphy among students.
The event was a resounding success, as it showcased not only the students' enthusiasm for calligraphy, but also their deep respect for the Vietnamese tradition of receiving calligraphy blessings from “ông đồ” (elderly calligraphers). The organizing committee was immensely proud to have inspired such a passion for calligraphy among the students, helping them learn about its historical roots and the significance of the “Four treasures of the Study” in both Han and Vietnamese calligraphy traditions.

Throughout the event, members of the Calligraphy Club brought back the image of an elderly calligrapher, dressed in traditional attire, crafting câu liễn (a form of parallel sentence structure commonly found in poetry and literature) as special New Year's gifts for students. Many received these personalized calligraphy artworks of their names, each accompanied by the detailed explanations of their meanings.
In addition to the calligraphy activities, the event also featured interactive games and various cultural performances that captured the joyous and festive spirit of the Lunar New Year celebration.
The event was particularly honored to not only welcome the students’ participation but also to receive enthusiastic support from the entire faculty and staff at VHU.

The students lined up for their custom calligraphy paintings.

The students eagerly checked out the calligraphy paintings they had just received.
