Recently, lecturers from the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Van Hien University took part in a professional training program for Speaking and Writing examiners following the format of the Vietnamese Standardized Test of English Proficiency (VSTEP) Levels 3–5 under the Vietnamese Foreign Language Proficiency Framework (VNFLPF). The program was hosted by Ho Chi Minh City University of Education from June 15, 2026, to July 4, 2026.
The three-week training program equipped lecturers with foundational theories in testing and assessing English speaking/writing skills in general, as well as specific knowledge regarding formats, rubrics, and scoring procedures for the VSTEP Speaking and Writing components. Alongside theoretical foundations, faculty members engaged in practical marking using standardized rating scales to achieve high scoring calibration, thereby enhancing standardized testing and assessment competency across the university's academic staff.
The course offered not only a valuable opportunity for professional development, but also a forum for educators to network and share expertise with peers from other higher education institutions, such as the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU-HCM, Dalat University, Vietnam Aviation Academy, and the University of Economics and Finance.
Upon fulfilling all course requirements, participating lecturers were awarded VSTEP Speaking and Writing Examiner Certificates (Levels 3–5) compliant with Ministry of Education and Training standards. This serves as a vital preparatory step and demonstrates Van Hien University's ongoing commitment to becoming an accredited test center for VSTEP in the near future.
